The girls and I woke up early because we have made plans of joining the free walking tour around Budapest. The meeting place was at Vörösmarty Square. We decided to hike to the meeting place instead of taking the tram because it didn't look that far from our map. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the walking tour because we got lost along the way. Hence, we agreed to do the tour ourselves. We were lucky that the map already specified the best attractions and routes. First, we walked along the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, a stone-bridge connecting the former twin cities Buda and Pest and crossing the whole length of the Danube River.
At the Buda side of the city lies the domineering Buda Castle. We had to climb up the Castle Hill, rising 48 meters above the Danube, which was quite tiring. But it was ALL worth it because along the way, we were able to witness a magnificent view of the city!
The Castle Hill quarter was very spacious. Before seeing the Buda Castle itself, we were already amazed by the other interesting sights in the area. Everything was so pretty!
Finally, we saw the glorious Buda Castle! What made me extra happy was finding a stall in the castle grounds selling the Kürtőskalács, a traditional Hungarian pastry, which is also available in the Czech Republic but is called as Trdelník. It has lots of varieties: chocolate, cinnamon, among others.
Mid-afternoon, we headed to another area in the Castle Hill quarter: The Fisherman's Bastion, a beautiful neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style terrace. It looked like a castle from a fairytale book.
Before sunset, we took a river cruise along the Danube River! It was quite chilly, but it didn't matter because the view was simply amazing. My favorite was the Parliament Building.
After the hour-long cruise, we wandered around some more and ended up in Budapest's Fashion Street. There were lots of shops, cafes and restaurants! We got so hungry later on so we started to search for a restaurant. We ended up eating at the one place that everybody loves: SUBWAY. That night, we met up once again for some drinks with Giuliano, Amine and Daniele at Szimpla, one of the coolest student pubs I have ever been to. It is not a typical pub because it is located in a residential area. You can just imagine how the neighbors are feeling about the noise that's why the bouncers were so particular about noisy drunkards along the street after the party.
