Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, was our second stop in our 5-day trip. From Bratislava, we took a three-hour bus to Budapest using Student Agency. We arrived around 2:00pm then we went straight to our hostel to drop off our luggage!
Nicoleta reserved a room for the three of us in an apartment turned family-run hostel called Caterina Hostel Room & Apartment Service.
I love this hostel because of its premiere location. It is a stone's throw away from Oktagon Square. Plus, it is very affordable. We only paid 17 euros per night including breakfast for a room for three. However, the major downside is that there's no lift in the building. The hostel is located at the 5th floor of a beautiful early 19th century building, so carrying our huge luggage up the flight of stairs was really agonizing!
After freshening up and checking-in at our hostel, we grabbed a bite at Subway located at Oktagon Square.
After a quick bite, we went with Amine to drop off his luggage at the flat of his Italian friend, Giuliano. The flat is perfect with its white interiors, high ceiling, spacious living room and kitchen. Plus, Giuliano's room is designed like a loft, something that I really love. That night, Amine, Giuliano and us girls strolled along Andrássy Avenue, the iconic boulevard in Budapest.
We passed by the grandiose Hungarian State Opera House. It looked so beautiful especially at night. We took the tram (without tickets..yikkkks!) to the Liberty Bridge, one of the 8 bridges in Budapest and the shortest one too. It was built for the Millennium World Exhibition in 1896.
That night, we also met Giuliano's friend, Daniele, who was a former AIESECcer. We had a late dinner at a pub and then proceeded to the birthday party of an AIESECer in another pub. I met a Filipino AIESECer named Cielo during the party. It felt good to be speaking Tagalog again after such a long time.
